The Times reports “Dominc Raab ‘ignores crisis’ as barristers quit”.
The justice secretary has been attacked by senior barristers amid claims that he is neglecting problems in the criminal courts as lawyers desert the profession.
Dominic Raab was accused of snubbing the Bar Council’s annual conference at the weekend by failing to make a speech in person. Instead Raab sent a recorded video message that failed to address what many lawyers and judges see as a growing crisis.
Delegates to Saturday’s conference in London were angered that during the meeting Raab tweeted a picture of himself with a “rollerskating Christmas pudding” at a festival in his constituency. The Ministry of Justice said that Raab “was unable to make the event but has engaged with the sector and will continue to do so”.
